David P. Jones was on the music faculty of Eastern Washington University from 1994-1998. He currently works as a dance musician and free-lance composer in Seattle. His music has received over 200 performances in France, Sweden, Australia, The Netherlands, and the United States. Performances of his works have been given by the Seattle Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Boston Trombone Quartet, Marimolin, Le Quatuor Habanera, Zephyr and members of the orchestras of Boston, Cleveland, Louisville, Minnesota and Stockholm. His big band charts have been played by the Bob Curnow Big Band, Jazz Police, Jim Cutler Jazz Orchestra, and bands from Indiana University (Bloomington and South Bend), University of Iowa, University of Missouri at Kansas City, University of Alaska at Fairbanks, Butler University, Central Missouri State University, North Idaho College, Las Vegas Academy of Performing Arts and many other schools. Recordings of his music appear on the Catalyst/BMG, Summit, Centaur, and Nosag (Sweden) labels. His music is published by Sierra Music, Really Good Music, Editions Musicales Combre, and C. Alan Publications. With over 25 years experience as a dance musician, he currently works for Pacific Northwest Ballet and Cornish College of the Arts. He has played dance classes for Paul Sanasardo, Mary Anthony, Bill Evans, Margaret Jenkins, Brenda Buffalino, Patricia McBride, Violette Verdy, Fernando Bujones, Bruce Wells, and members of the Martha Graham Dance Company, Joffrey Ballet, American Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet, and Twyla Tharp Dance Company. David Jones grew up in Seattle, Washington where he began his musical studies on the clarinet at the age of six. Later, he studied the saxophone and piano, performing with the Seattle Youth Symphony, Seattle Civic Light Opera and various school ensembles before turning to composition during his high school years. Since then, he has received over eighty performances of his music in Paris, New York, Boston, Seattle, St. Paul, Salt Lake City, Nashville, San Antonio, Radford (VA), Keene (NH), Potsdam (NY), and at the Tanglewood Festival and New England Music Camp. His music has been performed by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra (under Dennis Russell Davies), the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the New England Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, the New England Conservatory Wind Ensemble, the University of Washington Wind Ensemble, the Virginia Intercollegiate Band, the New England Trombone Choir, the Eastman Trombone Choir, the International Horn Symposium Horn Choir (under Phillip Farkas), Marimolin, the Orchestra of New York Woodwind Quintet, the Northwoods Wind Quintet, the New England Conservatory Honors Saxophone Quartet, and various faculty and students of New England Conservatory, the University of Washington, Crane School of Music, and Oberlin Conservatory. Mr. Jones has received first prizes in the Marimolin Composition Competition (1988), the International Horn Society Composition Contest (1986), the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra Composition Contest (1984), and the New Music for Young Ensembles Competition (1979). He has also received awards from the International Association for the Promotion of the Saxophone (1988), the International Trombone Association (1987), the Virginia Symposium for New Band Music (1986), the Delius Composition Contest (1980), and the ASCAP Standard Panel (1986-1991) as well as fellowships from Artist Trust (1988) and the Washington State Arts Commission (1985). Mr. Jones holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of Washington and a Master of Music in Composition (with Academic Distinction and Performance Honors) from New England Conservatory where he studied with Malcolm Peyton, William Bergsma, William O.
